There are a number of factors to consider when
purchasing new ski equipment. Selecting and being fit to the
proper ski, boot and binding is critical to your performance, comfort
and safety. While each have their own considerations, they do
share some that must be considered when outfitting yourself
where you are skiing (terrain), your ability and speed, what type
of skiing you plan to do, your body type, and of course your budget
level.
SKI SELECTION
There are a number of factors that you must take
into account when purchasing new skis. You need to pick a ski with
characteristics that match the style of skiing you will be doing.
This includes the ski type, ski length, flex and effective edge
which all have a great affect on your performance. View our ski
buying guide for more information.
BOOT SELECTION
Your boots can drastically affect your comfort,
technique and enjoyment when skiing. A proper fitting boot is the
best investment you can make. Dinardos' staff have the expertise
to fit you into a boot that will match your ability, style and budget.
Our line of boots offer a number of fit options and boot styles
to ensure you get the proper fit. Read more about ski
boot fitting.
BINDINGS
Simply put, bindings keep you on your skis and
are a critical factor in how your skis react to your movements.
A good binding is key to your performance and safety. When
selecting your bindings, you will have to consider:
- your boot selection (some bindings work better with certain
boots);
- your skill level (the amount of pressure a binding allows you
to place on a ski before releasing increases as your skill level
advances);
- your body type;
- lift (allowing your boot to lift off your ski if it is required);
- ability to make adjustments; and
- features such as vibration dampening and Marker's piston controlled
oil suspension.
Dinardos' staff will be able to take all of these
factors into consideration to make sure you select the proper binding
for your specific needs.
RAIL SYSTEMS
Motion system skis manufactured
by Völkl, have rails integrated in their construction, onto
which a Marker binding interface slides, held in place by a high-carbon
steel pin. Fixed by the pin, the interface can glide along the rails,
and the skier benefits from complete freedom of ski flex. Easier
flex means even, balanced edge pressure to the snow surface. This
results in better control through precise pressure distribution
over the length of the edge, and better performance.
Tyrolia's Railflex System is a
unique integration system that can be mounted to most skis. The
Railflex System allows the bindings to be independent of the ski,
optimizing ski performance. The Boot Center Adjustment allows the
binding when already mounted to be easily adapted to the individual
habits of the skier – for skiers preferring moderate speeds
or an all-around performance and high speeds.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT
When selecting ski equipment, it is also important
to keep safety in mind. While the best precaution is properly fitted
boots, bindings and skis, safety clothing, eye protection (from
sun and debris), a helmet and proper gloves are highly recommended.
Proper outerwear and new technology clothing will keep you dry and
comfortable.
